City University Malaysia, Petaling Jaya, 8 August 2018 : -

City University Malaysia was honoured to receive today the presence of the Deputy Minister of Women, Family & Community Development (KPWKM), YB Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan for the Roundtable Discussion for Hari Taska 2018. More than 200 guests attended this event which was organised by the Persatuan Pengasuh Berdaftar Malaysia (PPBM).

At this event in City University Malaysia, YB Hannah Yeoh received the action plan recommendations and resolutions from roundtable session by PPBM, whose theme was “Strengthening the Quality in Childcare Education Service in Malaysia”. The chosen theme was most appropriate as it echoes the quality of education provided by City University Malaysia in its Early Childhood Care (ECE) courses offered through the diploma, degree and master programmes.

“Our children are the assets of the nation. There are many issues that have not been resolved. It is in my personal opinion that we should at least look into setting up a Ministry of its own on childcare,” said YB Hannah Yeoh.

There were nods of agreement amongst the audience, especially from PPBM President, Puan Norsheila Abdullah A.M.N, who had called for a childcare department to be set-up under KPWKKM, earlier in her speech.

According to Prof. Dr. Azhar bin Md Adnan, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) :

“For PPBM to have chosen City University Malaysia as the venue for this roundtable discussion, it is a recognition by them of the important role that University plays in early childhood care and education. This is because we provide specialised diploma and degree programmes in Early Childhood Education. Furthermore, our Master in Education programme also provides specialisation in this area.”

“This event by PPBM is essentially about the need for strengthening the quality in childcare services in Malaysia, whereas the University essentially imparts that education and knowledge needed to achieve that level quality care in the field of early childhood care,” added Dr. Azhar, who is also the Dean for Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies of City University Malaysia.

The guests comprise of various stakeholders in early childhood care such as parents, educators, childcare service providers, NGOs, officers from government agencies, lecturers, and also the presidents and exco members of PPBM from various states.

“The presence of the YB Deputy Minister here today at this important event further motivates us at City University Malaysia, to strive to be one of the well-known and leading specialists in early childhood care sector,” said Pn Mahsuri bt Md Desa, Lecturer (Education) of City University Malaysia.
