Have you ever wondered how students managed their time with learning and earning money at the same time? Well, trust me you’ll be amazed at how Sandra Lim of FOELS managed her time. Lim Shue Hui or famously known as Sandra is a second-year student doing her Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.

Sandra, an active participant in the field of martial arts for the past 10 years, is now pursuing a career in the entertainment industry as a model and actress.

Back in her martial arts day, she had been a competitive athlete and joined many competitions that lead her to win many medals at the district, state level, and even national as well as the international stage. With her given height of 174cm, she represented Malaysia as Miss Malaysia and won Miss Model of Best in Talent in the Grand Finals for Model of the World 2018 in China.

Sandra’s first start in the entertainment industry was when she was 18 years old when she began to model for gowns and local brands before getting into action photoshoot and filming. One of her biggest milestones is when she starred in McDonald’s Malaysia Chinese New Year’s advertisement in January this year for McChicken Nuggets.

After the success of the ads, she then started doing short films and other ads like Cuckoo and iProperty. After this, it is no surprise if we see her probably working on an action movie.

As an active student, how did you cope & manage your time doing two things at a time?

“Currently I’m doing part-time acting due to time constraints because I’m still a student. It’s not easy working in the entertainment industry and it is overwhelmingly very time-consuming. I have to juggle from keeping up with assignments and exams, staying fit, and taking care of my house. There were times when I have to be involved with a 19-hour long shoot for ads following a mid-term exam on the next day; with no rest, I head straight away to class after overnight filming from 11 pm – 8 am. It was definitely not easy to go through all of it, but despite that, I felt lucky as I can study and score on the exam with my ever-increasing busy schedule. I’m also grateful to my college friends for being helpful and tremendously supportive to inform me about classes, assignments, and exams.”

What do you want to be once you graduate?

“I would follow where my journey takes me in the future but I do have a vision and hope to be collaborating and representing bigger brands especially sports brands but in the near future after graduation, I would want to be a full-time model/actress and wish to work on more projects. Other than that, I might even consider joining another pageant in the future.”

Learning in CITYU. Can you share your experience learning with the lecturers in CITYU especially with the communication faculty lecturer?

“For me, the best thing to study in CITYU is how much fluidity there is and the sheer veracity that exists in the environment. This encourages and helps people like myself to build something of my own self outside of campus because students are not bound with just studying in subject structures, we are also given the opportunity to learn how to apply the experience and knowledge learned in class outside in the working field. My lecturers have been the most understanding and forgiving of all; they would arrange the exams and explain to me what I have missed in class personally because sometimes I miss classes, sometimes also taking exams earlier or later than other classmates to fit in with my work schedule.”

In terms of education, would you suggest others to study at CITYU?

“Depends on student. They must understand the qualification and be clear about what they want to learn from the institution they choose. Personally, I have no regrets choosing CITYU because I learn what I need to in class and CITYU fits perfectly with my qualifications, plus the classes fit harmoniously with my schedule. I am truly satisfied enrolling in CITYU.”
