Two Top Management Representatives of Aloft Kuala Lumpur fosters best practices and intriguing opportunities available in the industry with students of City University from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism and VATEL Kuala Lumpur

PETALING JAYA, Oct 30 - One hundred and twenty-three students of City University from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism (FOHAT) and VATEL Kuala Lumpur convened at the knowledge sharing session recently.

Organised by the academic panels from FOHAT which took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) of City University, Malaysia, the event aimed to educate students on the intriguing prospects available in the service industry. Invited guests speakers were the General Manager of Aloft KL, Mr. Gregory Gubiani,  and the Director of Human Resources of Aloft KL, Ms. Nik Ayu Tania Bakti.

With more than 18 years of experience as an hotelier, Mr. Gregory Gubiani stated that the hospitality and tourism industry is the sole industry which offers vast career prospects with many core jobs within the same place. He mentioned “The hotels has a myriad of job scope ranging from Front Office, F&B, Barman and Barmaid, Banqueting, Back-of-House, Housekeeping, Kitchen, Stewarding, Sales and Marketing, Finance, Engineering, Human Resources and more. It is all a matter of what people are going after towards their career progression”.

Sharing her experience on talent acquisition and retention, Ms. Nik Ayu pointed “In the hospitality industry, it is still about having a positive disposition - being highly motivated, self-driven and knowing where one would go along on the career path”. As a fellow VATELian, Ms. Nik Ayu also expressed “Being in the industry gives us the real scenario of what the working world is like. Theoretically, what we have learned in class is the fundamental guideline of the career path; we do not get that pressure of having 500 people for F&B nor cleaning rooms within 45 minutes. We only get to experience it during the internship where everyone is treated equally as employees”.

Recognising the students’ need for embarking on their future career, the event also served as a networking platform for students to source out internship placement with the University’s industry partner, Aloft Kuala Lumpur. As Mr. Gubiani has said “Apart from helping the students to define and assimilate themselves in the areas of expertise for their choice, the collaboration also prepares the students with an abundance of liberty to be placed into international hotels. The General manager also highlighted “The possibility of getting hired upon completing the internship is present as the student already understands what hotelier is all about - an ideal candidate for the hotel. This win-win situation is what makes the partnership of Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral and City University, Malaysia becomes strong”.
