13TH PAM ANNUAL ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WORKS EXHIBITION 2018 (PAASWE18)

 

This is an annual event organized by the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), located at the One Utama Shopping Centre. Open to the public, the exhibition ran from 17th  to 21st  October 2018 and showcased works from selected local public and private architecture schools. This year’s theme was “VIA”, a borrowed term from Latin meaning “path”. The requirement was a booth design in the form of a tunnel for the visitors to explore and view design works by the students. The objective of this exhibition were as follows:

  1. Public awareness on the process of educating an Architect,
  2. Public information of Architecture as a respectable career,
  3. Exposure of the Architecture schools in Malaysia and their products, and
  4. Exposure of Architecture students in engaging with the public.

Materials for PAASWE18 was sponsored by 2 firms, Thung Hing Group for PVC as well as metal building components, and GIEF for bamboo components. All institutions were required to construct their booth using 90% of the materials provided by the sponsors.

A total of 24 architecture schools were involved in this year’s exhibition. A variety of programmes were held during PAASWE18, such as the Creative Art Competition divided into the Sketching Competition and Stick Structure Competition, as well as Children Art Competition for Primary and Secondary School Students.

Judging for the PAM Best Booth Display Award as well as Kertuk Buluh competition was held on 20th October 2018, and the closing ceremony and prize presentation held the next day. Overall, City University’s entry under the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment (FOABE) received a number of accolades:

  1. The Gold Award for the PAM Best Booth Display Award: 9th Place out of the 23 eligible participating institutions. Gold Award are for top 10 entries only. Representatives from City University are as follows (1 lecturer & 10 students):

  2. Creative Art Competition: Stick Structure Competition: 2nd Place. A small-scale model-making competition using bamboo sticks and judged on creativity. Winning team as follows:

    • Mohammad Effa Rizal Khairuljam (BOSAD programme)
  3. PAM Academic Excellence Award 2018: PAM Part 1. Each university was requested to nominate one best student for the PAM Part 1 and/or PAM Part 2 accredited programme. City University nominated the following student to receive the award:
    • Mohamad Khairul Anuar Mohamad Zamri (BOSAD programme, due for convocation January 2019)
